Different person here :) I make icons for the ROMs I buy as well. That was great for the Game Boy one. Do you have the Game Gear and SMS art as well? I shrink my final versions down to 500 x 500 pixels, so bigger than that works fine. I'm fine using the Game Boy one you provided if it's too much extra work.
Hi! Thanks for your interest, I love the GG and the SMS, and it's great to see that more and more homebrew games are created for them (especially thanks to the annual SMS Power! dev competition).
To answer your question: - The Game Gear and Game Boy versions are identical gameplay wise (same controls, difficulty, and levels). Only the graphics and sound are different (the original version being the Game Gear one, and the Game Boy a faithful port of it).
- The Master System has three main differences compared to the Game Gear version : 1) This version doesn't feature an "auto-fire" option (holding down button enabling automatic repeated fire). Each time you press the button, a short is fired and that's all. The auto-fire feature was added the Game Gear version (and so the GB one too) thanks to player feedback after the SMS release, as this one was the first to be published.
2) The levels designs are often different, to use the extra screen space provided by the Master System (256x192 screen area, compared to 160x144 on Game Gear and Game Boy).
3) The gameplay of the Game Gear version was "tweaked" to reduce the difficulty, as playing on a smaller screen area naturally makes the game harder. So the player moves slightly faster in the Game Gear version, and it also has a smaller hitbox.
Besides these differences, they play the same, and sound identical (Game Gear and Master System use the same audio hardware).
If you try several versions of the game, please let me know the one that you prefer :)!
I do plan to port it to other machines, although I'd like to target lesser know machines with this game. But the NES is also on the map, as it's a very fun machine to develop for (I have another NES project in the work, that will hopefully be completed by the end of 2026).

Thanks I just picked up the bundle! do you have a cover image png I could use for my emulator?
Thanks, I hope you'll enjoy the game!
Regarding the cover image, does the front of the box below would fit your need?
If not, I can try to make another one. What resolution do you need for the cover image?

Hi! It's cool to see players getting creative :)! Out of curiosity, what emulator do you use that allow you to set custom icons for each game?
And as requested, here is the Game Gear front cover
And here is the Master System one:
I hope it fit your needs, and feel free to ask me if you need anything else!
I hope you'll enjoy the games :)
Thank you so much!
Just purchased the GB physical from Homebrew Factory!
Thanks a lot for your support! I hope you'll enjoy the game :)
Always happy to see new Game Gear and Master System games get released! Any differences between the versions or do they all play the same?
