The Last Super
"November 21st, 2020. The SNES turns 30 years old: it's time to celebrate!
Sadly, there is only one SNES cartridge left on Earth..."
The Last Super is brand new Super Nintendo (SNES) game created to celebrate the 30th birthday of the console!
As the last SNES cartridge on Earth, you'll have to move and jump around in each of the 20 levels of the game so every SNES can play you! But don't let a SNES without cartridge for too long...
SNES ROM or cartridge?
The Last Super is an actual game for the Super Nintendo / SNES / Super Famicom console. If you want to play it on a real console, you can buy a beautiful game cartridge from Catskull Games. As an extra bonus, this cartridge also contains my previous SNES game Keeping SNES Alive!
The cartridge is made from newly built elements (PCB, shells, etc) all designed and hand assembled in the US by Catskull himself. The cartridge is region-free. It has been tested and working on NTSC SNES, PAL SNES, JP SFC, and Analogue Super Nt.
If your prefer to play it on emulator, you can download a ROM version of the game here, and use it with any SNES emulator you like. Here are a few examples:
- Windows: Snes9X, BSnes, Higan, RetroArch
- Mac: Snes9X, RetroArch
- Linux: Snes9X, RetroArch
- Android: Snes9X+, RetroArch
- Ios: RetroArch
- BlackBerry: RetroArch
- Raspberry Pi: RetroPie, RecallBox, Lakka
- PSP / PSVITA: Snes9XTYL
- PS3 / GameCube / Wii / Wii U / Xbox / 3DS / GCW Zero: RetroArch
- Xbox One: NesBox
- Web: just use the HTML5 based emulator above (RetroArch)

My current record in survival mode is 35. Here's the proof:
Behind the scenes
The game was programmed in C using the wonderful PVSNESlib by Alekmaul.
The music was composed by XRACECAR. The two tracks are:
- "ayyy you know the man" (under a Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA license)
http://battleofthebits.org/arena/Entry/ayyy+you+know+the+man.xm/23747/ - "7049 Bytes of Memories" (under a Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA license)
http://battleofthebits.org/arena/Entry/7049+Bytes+of+Memories/25393/
A fun fact about the audio: the "shlack" sound that you hear when the cartridge enters a console is an actual recording of the noise made by my SNES power button (recorded directly from my childhood console, still alive and kicking after 30 years!)
Last but not the least, the full source code is included. I spent a lot of time cleaning up and commenting the code as thoroughly as I could, hoping it'll help and motivate you to start making new SNES games too!
